Do people still do introductory posts? (Do I really need to do one?) I dunno, but I guess I’ll take a stab at it.

My name is Veronica! Call me Vern if you want. (This is not my legal name, but! I do actually use it in polite society! I have weird feelings about the Internet.) I am 24, white, cis, woman, heterosexual, and, as people fancier than me say, invested in fictional narratives. I’m in graduate school, studying library and information science, and I’m thinking about applying for a PhD in the same subject field, in hopes of researching the folk histories and lore of indigenous and immigrant cultures, as well as the way that women interpret folklore. (That is: how is information preserved, accessed, and perpetuated.) I’m interested in a lot of things! I’d love to hear what you are interested in as well, dear reader.

I grew up in a conservative Midwestern home with my parents, my older brother Phil, my older sister Midge, and my younger brother Liam. My family is protestant. I am not! A few years ago I joined the Eastern Orthodox Church; I am serious about my faith, though I continue to struggle with various and sundry issues and anxieties.

I went to a small, conservative college in Michigan and studied English and graphic design. I minored in journalism and dated a boy who was really mean to me, but I loved him anyway! We aren’t together any more, and I’m really okay with that. I am less okay with all of the times I let him belittle me and my studies.

I’m not really political, but I attempt to be compassionate.

I am living at home while I’m in school, which is by turns hilarious and really frustrating. I have trouble making friends (I’m shy!) and I have crippling second-hand embarrassment syndrome. I’m trying to get better at that. I also have a bad hip, though none of the tests I had are conclusive. I pretend that my limp is funny, but it really slows me down.

I also have a dog. I am sorry to say that I call her “baby,” as in, “Baby, Mommy’s busy, stop barking while she’s on the phone.” I can’t help myself.

That seems like as good a place as any to stop. I’m happy to answer any questions you have, to the best of my ability.
